If you need to talk..."GET IN THE CHAIR WITH JER!"

Hi, my name is Jeremy and I am a person centred counsellor, working in St George, Bristol, BS5 offering  one to one evening and weekend counselling slots to both adults and students. I'd like to become a partner with you, in helping you to manage your concerns more effectively. Please note though...I do not counsel couples, I only work in a one to one capacity with people.

"I saw Jeremy for a little over a year and it was one of the best decisions I could have made."
H, Bristol, 22 sessions, 2018 -2019

I didn’t really know what I wanted from counselling but jer was able to bring both focus and clarity. He made it clear from the start that he didn’t have the answers but that they lay somewhere within me but what he did was provide me with stepping stones. I enjoyed Jer’s plain speaking, his humour and his generosity of spirit. I would absolutely recommend anyone sitting in the chair...with Jer!

"I worked with Jeremy for almost two years at a time when I was trying to make sense of a difficult stage of my life, particularly around family and romantic relationships. He was incredibly patient and compassionate, an attentive and empathic listener, and had many an applicable metaphor or analogy to aid my thought and feeling process. Jeremy made me feel safe and comfortable at all times, and allowed me to feel valued within the boundaries of our counselling sessions together, for which I am incredibly grateful."

How counselling may help you feel better.

"Give sorrow words; the grief that does not speak,
knits up the over wrought heart and bids it break."

William Shakespeare, Macbeth

I enjoy helping people to make sense of what they are going through; helping them to access their own undiscovered inner resources, to live happier, more fulfilling lives. I work with: Loss, grief and bereavment, relationship break ups, life stage changes, anxiety, addictions and existential crisis.

"Following several sessions with Jer I can now say that approaching him for counselling was not only the right thing to do, but also absolutely essential. I think it goes without saying that I can highly recommend Jer and I will not hesitate to give him a call if I need counselling in the future!"

"I had been struggling for so many years, and I knew I had to do something. Then I received a leaflet through my door, ‘Get in the chair with Jer’ which instantly made me smile, so I arranged our first session. I felt at ease straightaway with Jer. I cried a lot and laughed a lot but after several months, our sessions gave me the strength to move forward with decisions I had put off for years. Thank you Jer!"

Modern life can be pretty stressful.  Work, family and relationships can all be challenging.  "Who am I?  Where am I going?  I am not where I want to be in life.  I have a great job, but am I still unhappy.  Something is wrong, but I can’t quite put my finger on it.  We broke up a year ago, but I just can’t move on.  My drinking is getting out of hand.  My life has no meaning.  Why am I here?"

If any of the above statements resonate with you, and you feel you want to talk to someone, I can offer a safe, non-judgemental, confidential environment where you can work through what is troubling you.  After an initial meeting we can discuss the option of  both short or long term counselling, but at the end of the day, you are the expert in your own life, so only you will know when you have done enough.

"It is important to appreciate that a meaningful conversation
can in itself be experienced as very helpful"

(John McLeod, 2011, Counselling Skills)

Evening and weekend counselling for your convenience

To fit in around your working day, I can offer  weekend sessions (9am – 6pm) and also Sunday early evenings as well.  So if you don’t fancy slogging across town at the end of a busy day, why not take the pressure off by choosing a weekend slot instead?

How much does counselling cost in Bristol?

The cost of counselling can vary between practitioners, so I would advise you to shop around and maybe contact a few different counsellors before you find one that you feel comfortable to work with.  I personally charge £25 for a FULL HOUR (which is also the prices for our introductiory session). The initial session/meeting lasts about 50 minutes, time enough so we can have an informal chat and decide if your needs are compatible with my skills, and that we would like to work together. Please be aware though that counselling is a comittment, both financially and emotionally. Please consider the costs before deciding to proceed. There is nothing more annoying that someone attending an initial assessment, then on deceiding to work through their issues with me, they then declare that they are not curently working, or do not have any money.
